Explanation of the results you will see after you have typed in two airport codes:
  • Departure City is full name of the airport you typed in for "departure"
  • Arrival city is the full name of the airport you typed in for "destination"
  • Aircraft Type is to remind you which aircraft type you selected (Jet is default)
  • Block Time Estimate is how long it takes for the aircraft, flying non stop, from the moment it pulls back, to the moment every one leaps from their seats to get off
  • Flight Time is how much time you spend in the air, assuming you're not on the ground at La Guardia

  • Taxi-in and Taxi-out is how long I have added in for this activity, again assuming a non-congested airport

  • Mileage Estimate (Kilometers and Nautical Miles) is the Great Circle Distance, or distance over the surface of a sphere (the earth), between the Departure and Arrival city. This is also the approximately the base mileage that should show up on your frequent flyer statement

  • ESAD Distances is called the Equivalent Still Air Distance, or in other words, if there is a headwind or tailwind it feels this long. Note I have used some generic wind speeds, but plan to update the model with actual winds during 2004.
